Our Approach

why safariWE LEARN lessons from the past and look to the future but live in the present.

WE EMBRACE cultures and are a model of international best practice.

WE ARE AMBITIOUS and determined, but define ourselves by our actions, not just by words.

WE ARE CONFIDENT in ourselves, but value most the quality of our relationships and the strength of our community.

WE ARE WELL INTENTIONED, we forgive and we search for the best in ourselves and others.

As SIS educators, we all offer our very best to each single one of our students, regardless of age or ability, and in return, we expect them to try to become the very best version of their unique selves and to fulfil their potential wherever their skills and interests lie.

It is also underpinned by the three-way partnership of Home and School, with the student at the centre, guided, but confident in their own direction.

As lifelong learners, our whole community espouse the learner qualities of creativity, curiosity, kindness, independence, reflection, respect and resilience, which through our associated values, help us to climb the Learning Mountain together, but with the skills and attitudes to travel alone in the future.

We are proud to be unique. We are proud to be different. We are proud to be Safari International School.

Our Values

why safari

Teaching and Learning

The Safari International School is a community for effective teaching and learning. We seek to develop self-esteem and pleasure in learning through a stimulating, supportive and happy environment that provides all members with opportunities to achieve their potential in the intellectual, physical, moral and social domains.

Personal Development

At SIS we value punctuality, honesty, creativity, kindness, independence, empathy, trust, humour, and tolerance.

Respect

At Safari International School we show respect for ourselves, other people, our environment, school property, and individual property.

Communication

SIS recognises the importance of communication. We encourage and support effective communication between all members of the school community.

Positive Behaviour Management

At Safari International School we use positive behaviour management, model good behaviour, use a reward system, use sanctions sparingly, support each other and are kind and polite.

Primary Curriculum

why safari Years 1 to 6 (5 to 11 year olds)

We use the Cambridge Primary curriculum for the core subjects of English, Mathematics and Science.

The English National Curriculum (with suitable adaptations to reflect our international nature and central European location) is the foundation for other subjects such as Geography, History, Music, Art, Physical Education, Computing.

French is taught from age 3.

Our students in Years 3-6 take Cambridge Progression Tests in English and Mathematics at the end of each school year.

Teachers use a wide range of strategies to deliver curriculum content such as science investigations, interactive, hands on projects, drama activities, games, informal discussions and outdoor learning. These strategies are used in conjunction with other more formal methods and ongoing assessments such as spelling tests, quizzes, writing tasks and tests. Our teachers prepare and deliver their lessons using a range of resources aimed to interest and inspire the students.

Primary school years

The Cambridge framework provides curricula for the key subjects of English (or English as an Additional Language), Mathematics and Science. Other subjects are based upon the English National Curriculum. They include Art, Geography, History, ICT (Computers), Music, Physical Education, and Personal and Social Education. French as a second language is taught from Year 3.

The Cambridge and National Curriculum programmes provide statements of content, knowledge, skills and understanding, and attainment target levels for all the subjects we teach. There is a huge range of resources available to assist teachers and the school purchases widely but particularly from the UK.

However, academic subjects are only half of the story. Where we believe we excel is in putting the child and his or her needs and situation first. So not only do we recognise that each child is individual, but also that every day is different and each provides another opportunity for success and happiness.

Our Ethos

Our EthosWe want our students to learn in happy, secure environment in which they are suitably nurtured, encouraged, challenged and where they can all reach their full potential.

Children’s social and emotional wellbeing is an integral part of our philosophy here at SIS. Through PSHE lessons and assemblies we emphasise the importance of life skills such as: respect, honesty, kindness and independence.

Our teachers have a holistic view of each child as a learner and are skilled at helping all children in their care develop into confident, positive and resilient young people who love learning and who are equipped to deal with the challenges of the 21st century.

Admission Criteria and Process

why safari

Admission Criteria

There are no fixed criteria for admission to our school; each child is treated individually. We do our best to place the newcomers into classes in which we believe they will thrive the most.

In general, we look at how old a child is, how many years of schooling they have had, from which establishment, as well as their levels in English and Maths. A chart with the standard age of children in each year group can be found in our Handbook. A place will only be offered if we believe we are right for the child and the child will be right for our school community. Offers are only made by the school Director, in writing.

Admission Process

Please complete the Admission Enquiry Form and return it to the school by email or simply fill it online. This form will help us answer your enquiry and ensure that you get relevant information when you visit our school.
